Nestled in the heart of the Bronx at 831 E 149th St, Pitusa Bakery stands out as a neighborhood gem for anyone craving freshly baked goods and satisfying breakfast fare. From the moment you step inside, the aroma of warm, house-baked bread envelops you, setting the tone for a memorable culinary experience. The bakery has earned a devoted following, and for good reason — their butter bread is a must-try, beloved for its rich, buttery texture and perfect balance of softness and crust.
Breakfast lovers will find themselves spoiled with choices, from classic breakfast sandwiches that consistently hit the spot to Cuban sandwiches that pack a punch of authentic flavor. The kitchen’s dedication to quality is evident in every bite, whether you’re enjoying a simple breakfast or indulging in one of their fresh, vibrant smoothies or well-crafted coffee offerings.
Donuts here deserve special mention. Customers often rave about how Pitusa’s donuts outshine even the big-name chains just a few doors away. They arrive fresh, tender, and full of flavor — a testament to the care and skill that goes into baking on-site daily.
Beyond breakfast and baked goods, Pitusa Bakery shines with its celebration cakes. Though one customer once noted a minor mix-up with cream flavors, it’s clear that the bakery’s keen attention to taste and presentation makes their cakes a centerpiece for any special occasion. The fact that loyal patrons return year after year to entrust their celebrations to Pitusa speaks volumes about the reliability and exceptional quality of their creations.
What truly elevates this bakery is its ability to cater to diverse tastes — there’s genuinely something for everyone. Whether you’re stopping by to grab a freshly squeezed orange juice or lingering over a perfectly brewed coffee alongside a delectable pastry, Pitusa Bakery crafts an experience that balances freshness, flavor, and friendliness.
Prepare to embrace a bustling atmosphere, especially during morning and lunch rush hours. The lines are a mark of excellence, not inconvenience, reflecting a community hub that draws locals seeking warmth, comfort, and honest-to-goodness delicious food. Pitusa Bakery doesn’t just serve food—it delivers moments of simple joy, one handmade dish at a time.
“ Best in house baked bread in the Bronx. Serves basic breakfast items. Butter bread is my absolute favorite. Cuban sandwich is amazing as well. Stop cooking on the grill at 1230pm. ”
“ Cheep TASTY, FRESHLY made donuts, very decent coffee, awfully good smoothies. Puts the DD a few doors over to shame! All this place is missing is a liquor license and it'd be PERFECT! May 19 Edit: Dunkin Donuts, a few doors over, has nothing on these donuts. ”
“ The breakfast is amazing The cakes are delicious, 4 stars because they put the wrong cream in my child's cake and we didn't know until we cut the cake at her party, but other than that this is an amazing bakery and breakfast spot, the food is delicious! My daughter does not like Strawberry lol UPDATE! being that this is THE ONLY bakery in my area I bought another birthday cake on emergency, instead of chocolate mousse because they always put strawberry jelly with strawberry pieces in chocolate mousse cake (idky) I instead bought a reg cake with vanilla cream, and I wish I did not ever spend a dime on that cake, when I say BONE DRY I MEAN BONE DRYYYYYYY, it's sad because the icing was pretty good, the cake was fresh but the cake itself was dryer than the Sahara desert, I wish they would just do better with these cakes, there's no competition in the area so they just don't put any effort into these cakes and it's so sad, I was better off buying a carvel ice cream cake at the market for the same price, well lesson learned and I will not be supporting this bakery on any type of cake. ”
“ I love this place. Their breakfast sandwiches hit the spot ever time. The downside is that this place gets packed in the mornings/lunch time. But what can you expect, they're awesome. You can find yourself waiting for 20+ mins at rush hour times in the morning. Update: 6 years later (2025) I can confirm they're still the best. This time around they made my daughter's 4th Birthday Barbie Cake. They did not disappoint! Everyone loved the tres leches flavor and asked for their location. Thank you Pitusa! ”
